Mid-term Leonardo da Vinci

Using just a few of Leonardo da Vinci's many roles I used the custom shapes tool to put them in thought bubbles. The background is his "Study of Flowers" with layers of accomplishments blended into it. I extracted the self portrait of Leonardo, used a filter, and adjusted the opaqueness to show the background. I changed the leading in the name for a slight overlap in the first and last name. The black for all fonts resulted in nice contrast. My hardest part of the project was deciding which accomplishments to use becuse there are just so many.

Masks-Hiding Among the Vegetables

For homework 5 I used the background picture of the vegetables as 2 layers in order to create a mask of artichokes to place over my grandson and create an illusion of him being buried. The original photo thumbnails are below. Having the two different background layers sandwiching the grandson layer allowed me to move him around between the artichoke layers until it looked the most real.  All photos are my personal photos.

Complimentary Color Scheme

I made this composite using the thumbnails below plus the pen tool to try and make fiery flames around the moon.  I used the color range command to extract and mask the crocheted tablecloth that I had scanned. I found it to be very easy and was trying to use it as a curtain.  I then used a gradient overlay trying to make it look like the moon was shining on my granddaughters face as well as throwing off the color of the red moon. For the flames (lol) I drew them using the brush then adding an inner glow. I thought about using a photo of actual flames but wanted to try something other than photos.

Fall 2012 Duotone

Lonely Lame Goose

This duotone consists of a photo of a lame goose composited onto the Villa Montalvo footbridge.  I tried all different duotones and found that the darker second color brought out the details of the composite better than the lighter or brighter colors. The full color composite is almost a natural duotone.

09 Typography Homework 3 Postcard

In this assignment I tried to use the white space, looking space, and the rule of thirds while still including all pertinent information.

09 Typography Graphic Homework 4

I didn't have too much luck with the sample tutorials so I created a couple different banners for "Vickie's Page.
The gif above has simple lettering enhancements such as blending and opacity changes, while the jpg to the right has more texture added to the lettering.

09 Typography Graphic Homework 2

Anatomy of Typography - Illustrated.  This was a fun assignment once I got going.  I added the blue for extra definition of the illustrated part of the letter form.

10C-Homework 6 Gaylan's Catfish

This my photoshop typography graphic consisting of 2 photos, a background of Lake Shasta and my husband Gaylan with his catfish (not from Lake Shasta. I made a mask of Gaylan and the fish, and used the Croobie font, on a path, for the text on the fish. I don't know who's quote this is but it is off of a shirt I have and I do live by this quote and we do fish alot.

10C-Homework 4 Spider Time

This was kinda fun. I made a mask of the spider and used it over and over, adjusting colors, sizes and direction. My color scheme was the with compliment (purple) and analogous (yellow/orange) colors of the yellow rose. And I had to leave one black because it looked so good.

10C-Duotone 2

Here I redid the swan duotone and moved the swan to the foreground for a closer look.

And here I just had to show the color version because of the beautiful postcard of the gorge in Norway.

10C-Homework 3 Duotone

The swan is from Los Gatos Creek park composited onto the background which is a beautiful postcard from Norge (Norway).

10C-Homework 12 Mask

I found this tutorial more difficult and I do not like the how my flame enhancements turned out. And I personally liked the background the original colors of fall.

10C-Homework 10 Surreal

This was really fun to make once I got started and got my brain going. I used two photos taken by Richard Parres (my son-in-law), some arms cut off of a child in one of my own photos, and some eyes I drew in illustrator altering them in the blending to fit the project better.

10C-Midterm Kodak

I used images from the Internet and scanned a piece of film and an old film processing envelope. Warping the image of the film was kind of fun. I have trouble trying to organize the items because I don't like it crowded but then you more constraints, not using everything I had, and it doesn't really look like a collage. My other problem was trying to decide if this was going to be Kodak or Eastman, since there was so much information about both the company and the man I sort of combined the two.

10C-Homework 6 Typography

Quote by George W. Bush. I would like to give credit for the beautiful flag image also but I have had it for so long I don't even know where I got it.
I found trying to warp the text to follow the wave of the flag was very hard and stressful but other features of the text/smart image was pretty easy and straight forward.

10C-Homework 4 The Battle's On

My ladybug was so bright red that it took a bit of toning down to get it to fit in the web and take on this spider. Both photos were taken by photographer Richard Parres.

10C-Homework 3 Duotones

On the left is one of my duotones. I did a composite making my husbands simple snowmobile ride a jump off a cliff at Bear Valley. I found that I had to remove the windshield to make the composite work.

In this picture to the right, I took our boat off of the trailer and placed it into the cove at the lakehouse. I found it hard to not loose the cloud peeking over the ridge when choosing my duotone color.

10C-Class Blog Assignment

I am not a blogger. I am setting this blog up as a class assignment (while my husband is fishing) and this is my first blog. We will see how it goes.
